Due to global migration, the prevalence of sickle cell disease in Canada is increasing. People of African, Arab, and Indian backgrounds in Canada are the most affected and can benefit from ITP expertise in treating this condition in high-prevalence countries. Most sickle cell disease cases occur in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and India. In these regions, the disease affects up to 2% of the population, with India having over 20 million patients.
