Pathway to Conditional Licensure for Internationally Trained Physicians via a Practice Ready Assessment: Hospitalist Medicine
As Canada’s hospitals face unprecedented demand, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia has a new pathway, enabling Internationally Trained physicians to join the Canadian workforce via a Practice Ready Assessment: Hospitalist Medicine Program.
This Program is for:
Internationally Trained Physicians who have completed Family Medicine, General Practice or Internal Medicine Training in international jurisdictions not recognised by Canadian certifying colleges
Eligibility Requirements:
Must have successfully completed:
2 years postgraduate training/internship leading to certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or General Practice AND 1 year of independent unsupervised licensed practice in primary care, Internal Medicine or Hospitalist Medicine
OR
1 year of internship or postgraduate training resulting in certification in Family Medicine /General Practice /Internal Medicine AND 2 years of independent unsupervised licensed practice in primary care, Internal Medicine or hospitalist medicine
Successful completion of one of the core rotation combinations during internship/ postgrad training:
Minimum of 8 weeks in FM/GP and 4 weeks general surgery and 4 weeks of IM
Minimum of 8 weeks in IM and 4 weeks of general surgery
Hospitalist medicine clinical fellowship approved by the Registrar.
Recency of Practice:
Must have engaged in clinical practice for at least 450 hours in the previous 3 years
English Language Proficiency
PACE selection:
College would determine applicant’s eligibility for PACE and defers selection of eligible candidates to PACE
Please note in addition to the above listed requirements candidates must have less than 2 previous unsuccessful attempts in a Canadian practice ready assessment program and all credentials must be source-verified by physiciansapply.ca
